Excerpt:

“Will you…will you touch me?” I whispered against his lips, my voice soft and breathy. “I want to feel your hands on me, Philip.”

His grip tightened just slightly on my waist before he relaxed, but there was a new tension in him. I held my breath as I waited for his response to my bold question. I felt in control, something sadly lacking in my life. There was power in being the one who said yes. I was allowing what happened to me. No one was making me do anything I didn’t want to. It was actually almost liberating to make my needs known. I’d never been given this chance before.

“Let’s go sit on the couch, maybe get a little more comfortable.” Philip’s voice was gruff and rumbled through me like a freight train.

As we settled on the sofa, I scooted as close to him as possible, until I was practically in his lap. My breath caught as Philip leaned forward and began plucking the pins from my hair, until he’d tossed them all on the coffee table. I let out a soft sigh as he threaded his rough, calloused fingers through my hair until it cascaded down, billowing around my shoulders and settling over my breasts.

“Your hair is like silk,” Philip said softly as he ran his fingers through my hair again, just stopping before he reached my breasts. “I can imagine it spread...”

He shut off the flow of words. My brain tried to puzzle out what he had meant to say, but when his finger ghosted across my neck, all thoughts flew out of my head. My nipples hardened, and I shuddered at his touch. I watched his eyes track the path his finger was taking as it brushed across my collar bones. I wondered if he could see how much his touch affected me.

“Are you going to touch me now?” my words were anxiously excited, but I couldn’t help it. I was desperate for his touch.

Philip’s lip quirked in a half-smile as his gaze met might. His finger never stopped traversing across the top of my chest, moving neither higher nor lower. “I am touching you.”

My lower lip dropped into a pout. He was being deliberately obtuse. “Not there.”

“Oh,” he said with mock innocence, “this isn’t where you wanted me to touch you?”

My hair danced around my face as I shook my head. “You know it isn’t.”

In response his finger navigated a path across my shoulder and down my arm, leaving a trail of fire in its wake. Now he was just teasing me. “Not there either?”

“Philip.” I hated that his name came out sounding so whiny, but I had no idea that I’d need his touch more than I needed air.

Ebony by J. Thompson

One sister born of pain.
One sister born of blood.
One sister born of death.

Three sisters bound,
Wiccan and nightwalker.
Three sisters found,
To join an empire.
A prophecy of three,
So let it be.

Ebony’s life varied from minor inconvenience to total disaster. She could never catch a break. From a young age, she had been sent to live with many foster families, each one rejecting her after a short amount of time, none of them wanting to take on her unusual health issues.
She couldn't blame them—she didn't know what the hell was wrong with her, either.

Now, living day to day, struggling to buy the medicine she needs and with no home to call her own, Ebony battles for the hope that she won’t always be so alone. However, just when Ebony thinks her life couldn’t possibly get any worse, it does, and the darkness calls to her.

Yet salvation arrives in the unlikely form of two beautiful, mysterious women and a man willing to fight to be her saviour.

As a new world is suddenly and unexpectedly thrust upon her, Ebony, whether she’s ready or not, is about to find out who she really is and exactly what she’s made of.

Do you have a picky eater in your family? Are mealtimes a battle?

I can completely relate. My daughter was super picky as a child and when she was about to be school-aged, I wanted to figure out something she could take for lunch. She liked peanut butter, she liked jelly, and she liked bread so I thought, naively, that she would like a PB&J sandwich. Oh my goodness, did we have a standoff?

Sound familiar?

Don’t despair. Determine which battles you want to pick and be patient. Here’s my story…

My newest picture book, Franky the Finicky Flamingo, was inspired not only by my child's pickiness but my own. I know that's not a very "grown up" kind of thing to admit but alas I am picky. Most of it is due to texture issues but some of it is actually due to taste. Now, don't get me wrong, I was a much pickier eater when I was a child. So, I've outgrown a lot of it. And if you have a picky eater, I believe they're going to grow out it as well.

When I was in Elementary School, I didn't eat the school lunches so my Mom packed me exactly what I wanted every single day and that was a cold hot dog. Not the healthiest food, but I was happy. Somewhere around Middle School, I started eating school lunches. I know she was relieved.

I can honestly say that vegetables are just not my thing. I found out as an adult that I actually prefer my vegetables raw. Part of that is definitely texture, I don't like mushy vegetables but the other more surprising thing is taste. I find vegetables in the raw are much tastier than after they have been cooked. I have even been told they are better for you. So, who's picky now? Am I right? LOL

The other types of food that I really don't like are citrus fruits. They have those strings in them. I choke on them. Still to this day! And I don't like orange juice with pulp in it. Other fruits are all good though. What about you—do you have any foods you don’t like?

One time I heard a story about a set of twins that were separated at birth. One Mom said their child was a difficult eater because they wouldn't eat anything unless she put ketchup on it. The other Mom said her child was the easiest child to feed because she would eat anything as long as she put ketchup on it. Maybe it's all in perspective.

I just want to challenge you today as you think about your child's picky eating--what battle do you want to pick?

And just maybe Franky the Finicky Flamingo might help encourage your picky eater to try new foods. You can check it out today at myBook.to/Franky

EXCERPT #1

“Why do you have two phones and why do you need the numbers traced?”
I inhaled a deep breath as I considered my words carefully. “One of the phones is mine and the other is a cheap one my grandpa bought. I dug it out from the trash, but there’s a number he dialed and the person called him back. I’m trying to find out the location of the person who called him and someone who called me as well.” None of it was a lie. I’d explained the situation well without going into details or breaking any promises. Yay me.
“Why did your grandpa throw the phone the trash?”
I shrugged. “He does weird things sometimes.” Again, true statement. On occasion, he put tried to return the milk jug in the cabinet and put clean pots in the refrigerator. I could name plenty of other strange things he’d done, but why go there? We all did odd things from time to time.
Cade took the cheap cell from my hand. “Are you spying on him?”
“Me? No. I’m not a good spy.”
“Then why the interest?”
I stared into his dreamy eyes. “It’s complicated.”
“So am I.”
“Me three.”
He grinned and took the phones from my hands. “I can’t guarantee I can get locations, but I’ll try my best.”
“That’s fine.” Considering I had no other options, I accepted his terms. The man really was a genius, so I held hope he’d deliver what I needed.
“What number do you want me to trace on your phone?”
“One from about an hour ago. There’s another one like it from earlier, too.”
“Who was the caller?”
“I don’t know.”
His brows twitched. “You don’t know?”
Crap, now I was stuck having to answer. “It was a prank call.” Warmth began to rise to my cheeks.
Head lowered, he gazed at both cells. “How long were the calls?”
“I didn’t hang up right away. I’m not sure about Grandpa’s call.”
Cade met my gaze. “Does he know you took this?”
“No.”
“So you are spying, in a way.”
I let out a loud sigh. “Can you do it, Cade?”
He gave me a crooked smile. “You came to the right person.”
I mentally cheered. “Can you have addresses ready for me in an hour or so?”
His grin faded. “Why the rush?”
I bit my lip while I tried to come up with a good excuse. “I’m expecting a call. An important one. Really important.”
He studied me. The heavy weight of his gaze led me to believe he suspected I was up to something fishy. Or maybe I was putting too much thought into the way he looked at me. I do that a lot—think too much, which is probably why I have an overactive imagination. In an effort to thwart his leery thoughts, I folded my arms over my chest and stared back with equal force.
“This important call… Would it be from the prank caller?”
“No, I mean, yes.” I shook my head and turned away from him. My skin started to itch, so I scratched my arm. If I had to provide any more details, he’d figure out soon I was lying.

Grave Digger by Savannah Verte

GRAVEDIGGER
Mystery/thriller/suspense

Secrets and lies can’t stay buried long in shallow graves.

Through a string of seemingly unrelated murders, sleepy town Sheriff Eric Dublin uncovers a well-kept, dark secret, one that surfaces in pieces with each new body the gravedigger pulls from the Howard Community Cemetery. He calls in Detective Darian Gray to assist, hoping he won’t regret it, or owe her later.

When Callie Faire, local sweetheart gone Hollywood, is the latest corpse added to the body count, the investigation takes a tailspin. With more questions than he can answer, the national media descending on Howard, no suspects, and a victim that still has no name, Dublin will earn his upcoming retirement, if he manages to reach it.

Can they put the pieces together and break the case in time to stop the next murder, or will the gravedigger have another fresh corpse to dig up in the morning?

Author Bio:

A lifelong lover of words and reading, Savannah Verte hasn’t quite figured out what she wants to write when she grows up. Born and raised in the upper Midwest, Savannah’s gypsy spirit and never quit attitude keep her busy and seldom idle. For so many reasons, Savannah considers herself a ‘Contemporary Vagabond’ when it comes to writing and hopes that others find her diverse offerings as enjoyable to read as they are to write.

As the primary owner and driving force behind Eclectic Bard Books she considers herself immensely fortunate to see writing from varied perspectives as she endeavors to publish the authors rostered there. Working with other writers, Savannah gets to expand her horizons every day as someone brings a new idea to the table and the brainstorming begins. There is something addictive about the creative process for her and helping other authors embrace their dreams make hers a reality daily.

That’s the official Savannah, the unofficial version is just a girl who loves experiencing life with every twist and turn it takes. When she was born, she had such fine, light hair that her mother used to tape bows to her head so people would know she was a girl. She’s had a host of crazy unrelated jobs- everything from cake decorator, dry cleaner, and insurance agent to Emergency Room assistant, bartender, crime lab tech and bouncer. Savannah loves air hockey but completely sucks at it. She loves good jazz, good scotch, and antiques but also old rock, a quiet tea, and a tidy home. She’s completely technology impaired and can get it after she’s broken the computer or done it ass-backwards a few times… Thank Gods that there are some amazing meme creators that let her pilfer images or she’d be lost. Lime green is her color, the rhinoceros is her logo & philosophy, and she’s completely mad about seeing new authors try.

The heirloom herbs she grows in her bedroom will mark her a terrorist on Benjamin Innovative Genetics Corporation’s most wanted list if they’re discovered.
